Three waste syndicates, Sidec, Sigre, and Sidor, govern the waste industry in Luxembourg. While Sidec and Sigre have a mechanical-biological treatment plant and a landfill area, 70 per cent of all the waste in the Grand Duchy is disposed of in Sidor's environmentally friendly waste incineration plant. Disposal security for the city of Luxembourg's household and commercial waste, as well as that of 34 additional communities, is thereby guaranteed. In addition closer co-operation among the three syndicates is planned beginning in 2015 to optimally utilize and dispose of an additional thousand tons of waste.
In Leudelange, south of Luxembourg City, Sidor also has the highly modern waste recovery plant planned and erected by EEW. EEW Leudelange has been operating this plant since 2010 and generating electrical energy from 175,000 tons of waste.
