For EEW, sustainability means taking responsibility for the impacts of our business and managing them systematically.

As an operator of waste management and energy infrastructure, we thermally treat non-recyclable waste and use the energy contained in it. At the same time, we create the conditions for the recovery of secondary materials. In this way, we fulfil a role within waste management and the circular economy, as well as in energy supply. At the same time, our business model involves environmental impacts and conflicting objectives, which we actively address.

At EEW, sustainability is part of corporate management. We base our decisions on the material impacts, risks and opportunities associated with our business. Our aim is to strengthen positive impacts, limit negative impacts and, at the same time, safeguard the long-term stability of our business model.

In doing so, we take an integrated approach:

• We consider environmental, social and governance aspects in context
• We systematically link targets, measures and key performance indicators 
• We incorporate economic and regulatory conditions into our decisions

Our business involves areas of tension – for example, between security of waste disposal, climate impacts and economic viability. We make these conflicting objectives transparent and take them into account in our strategic and operational management.
