EEW Energy from Waste receives prime status in the ISS ESG-rating: Setting the course for a sustainable circular economy and EEW's claim to leadership

EEW Energy from Waste GmbH (EEW), a leading provider of thermal waste recycling, has been awarded the prestigious Prime status in the Institutional Shareholder Services ESG (ISS ESG) sustainability rating for the first time. With a rating of “B-”, EEW has positioned itself as an above-average market leader in the “Multi Utilities” peer group and confirms the continuous success and effectiveness of its sustainability strategy.

“Sustainability is not only part of our corporate vision, but a central element of our daily work. The ISS ESG rating is further important evidence of our successful course. In particular, the strategic refinancing of 2021, which gives us greater flexibility, and our consistent focus on climate protection show that we are on the right track. This enables us to drive forward sustainably financed projects and transparently show investors how thermal waste recovery actively contributes to achieving Germany's climate targets,” explains Stefan Schmidt, CFO of the EEW Group.

A step towards responsible investment
The ISS ESG Prime award is a significant achievement as it enables EEW to qualify as a sustainable and responsible investment partner for ESG-oriented institutional portfolios. The ISS ESG Corporate Rating assesses companies in the areas of environmental, social and governance and is based on a best-in-class approach. Only the top 25% of companies in the “Multi Utilities” peer group are awarded prime status - a recognition of outstanding sustainability performance.

Sustainable success continues
From 2022 to 2025, EEW continuously improved its performance in Sustainalytics' ESG Risk Rating, most recently with a score of 20.2 points. With the switch to ISS ESG, EEW's success story in the area of sustainable corporate governance will continue.
