EEW Energy from Waste GmbH welcomes Bundestag decision on Carbon Dioxide Storage Act

Act creates legal framework for CO₂ capture and storage in Germany.

The Bundestag's decision on the Carbon Dioxide Storage Act creates the legal conditions for the use of carbon capture and storage (CCS) in Germany.
The decision is part of a legislative package on the future use and storage of CO₂ and still requires the approval of the Bundesrat.

EEW CEO Timo Poppe explains:
“The decision creates the basis for further developing CO₂ capture at our sites and its subsequent transport for storage. This will enable us to gradually implement our climate targets.”

EEW is currently examining the construction of capture plants using planned transport and storage infrastructures at several locations. The aim is to technically capture, store, or use relevant quantities of CO₂ from exhaust gas streams in the future.

“In addition to the rapid development of the transport and storage infrastructure, clear regulations are now required to enable us to implement concrete business models. These include, for example, reliable reimbursement systems for both fossil and biogenic CO₂,” Poppe continued. “This is crucial in order to prepare the next planning steps in concrete terms.”
