Development of EEW successfully guided
EEW has developed extremely successfully over the past ten years, during which Markus Hauck led the Finance division as well as Purchasing, IT, M&A and Insurance. In his role as CFO, Markus Hauck helped to shape important milestones supporting EEW growth, including exit readiness and the sale of EEW by the then owner EQT to the current owner Beijing Enterprises Holdings Limited (BEHL) in 2016. A further milestone was entering the capital market with successful placement of the first EEW green bond to (re-)finance future sustainable projects. Markus Hauck has also successfully represented EEW’s interests since 2014 as a Member of the Executive Board and later as a Member of the Executive Committee of the Federal Association of the German Waste Management Industry (BDE).
Markus Hauck: “Trusting and future-oriented cooperation”
Markus Hauck looks back positively on his time at EEW: “It was not in any sense an easy decision for me to turn my back on EEW after such a long and successful time. In the Board of Management team we worked together in a trusting and consistently future-oriented way. Together we achieved a great deal. I would like to express my gratitude to the shareholders, the Supervisory Board, my colleagues on the Board of Management and the entire EEW team for the trust and confidence they placed in me over the years and I wish the company a very successful future. I had the clear desire to pursue a new professional challenge after ten years at EEW. I am therefore very pleased to have accepted a new position in the near future.”

Jürgen Rauen, Chairman of the EEW Supervisory Board, emphasises that Markus Hauck, in his position as CFO, helped shape numerous important situations for the company and provided very successful guidance: “One particular achievement among many others is certainly the placement of the first green bond, which gave the company considerable financial headroom to further develop its sustainable project pipeline. On behalf of the entire Supervisory Board I would like to express our binding and appreciative gratitude to you.”

EEW: an indispensable part of the circular economy
EEW Energy from Waste GmbH (EEW) is one of the leading companies in Europe in the field of thermal recovery of waste and sewage sludge. EEW Energy from Waste is already making an important contribution towards protecting the climate and resources and is a key player in the circular economy. Our corporate group currently operates 17 sites that can process around 5 million tonnes of waste per year. The more than 1,400 employees at our plants ensure that the energy stored in waste is utilised, the volume of waste is reduced, the hazards caused by waste are eliminated safely and without negative impact, and that scrap metals and compound materials are recycled. Moreover, we efficiently utilise the energy contained in waste to generate process steam for industrial plants, district heating for residential areas and environmentally sustainable electricity. In line with our vision for the future, we have set a goal to be climate neutral by 2030 and climate positive by 2040. A key measure in addition to carbon reduction will be carbon capture at our facilities. The captured carbon will be partly stored underground or utilised as a valuable feedstock for chemical products in a carbon-neutral economy of the future.
